Stillness in Motion: Reclaiming the Balance Between Being and Doing

BlogSpiritual InstructionsSpiritual Wisdombeing v doingbuddhismleft and right brainmotivationpresence

There’s a paradox that many people encounter when they begin to touch into deeper spiritual practice.
The path back to our essential nature often involves non-doing. Letting go.
Letting things be.
Resting in presence.

We begin to sense that happiness is not something to be chased or earned — it’s intrinsic.
It’s here. Already.
Not in some distant future, not on the other side of achievement or change.

Returning to Yourself: 3 Simple Practices for Finding Inner Peace

In today’s world, we’re all running on overdrive. Between juggling bills, career demands, family responsibilities, and the constant pull of technology, it’s easy to feel disconnected from ourselves. The good news? Your sense of wellbeing isn’t lost – it’s always there, waiting to be rediscovered.

\n\n

Think of it like this: We’re constantly climbing the mountain of daily life, barely catching our breath at the summit before starting the next ascent. Sound familiar? The key isn’t to climb faster or better – it’s learning to stay connected to yourself throughout the journey.

\n\n

As a former Buddhist monk and current transformational coach, I’ve discovered that reconnecting with yourself can be quite simple if you make a little bit of daily time (you might also want to periodically do a little more or even a retreat) . Here are three simple practices you can do in just 5-20 minutes:

\n\n

    \n

  1. The Gentle Check-In Start by noticing where your energy is flowing. Like a scattered light beam, our attention often sprays in countless directions – problem-solving, worrying, planning. Simply pause and observe your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judgment. This natural awareness has its own healing intelligence. Practice this for 5-10 minutes or weave it into your daily activities.
  2. \n

\n\n

    \n

  1. The Power of Pause Think of your mind like a snow globe – when shaken, everything swirls chaotically. But if you set it down and wait, the snow naturally settles, revealing clarity. Similarly, when you first sit quietly, your mind might rebel, craving action or dwelling on your to-do list. Stay with it. Your breathing will naturally slow, your thoughts will settle, and you’ll feel yourself returning to center.
  2. \n

\n\n

    \n

  1. The Heart Connection While our heads excel at planning and analyzing, our hearts hold the key to feeling truly alive. Science shows that the heart has its own neural network and intelligence – one that’s intuitive, holistic, and naturally healing. Try this: Close your eyes, breathe gently, and bring your attention to your heart center. Imagine a warm, golden light there, gradually expanding to fill your body, then the room around you. Let this gentle radiance remind you of your natural state of being.
  2. \n

\n\n

These practices aren’t just temporary fixes – they’re doorways to lasting transformation. Even 5-10 minutes daily can spark profound changes in how you experience life. While additional support or practices might help, these three simple techniques offer a reliable path back to your essential self.

\n\n

Remember, reconnecting isn’t a one-time event – it’s a journey of coming home to yourself, again and again, until living from that connected place becomes your new normal.
